Volunteer With the National Kidney Foundation
Making Lives Better...
The mission of the National Kidney Foundation is to prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases, improve the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases and increase the availability of all organs for transplantation. Volunteering with the National Kidney Foundation gives you a chance to be a part of that effort. Millions of Americans have some form of kidney or urologic disease. Thousands die each year while waiting for kidney transplants. Hundreds of thousands need life-sustaining dialysis treatments to stay alive.
Me Volunteer? What Can I Do?...
Of course you! and thousands of hard working people like you. The National Kidney Foundation needs people like you to assist with local Affiliate programs, write articles, review brochures, assist with legislative efforts and/or participate in national surveys regarding issues affecting individuals with kidney disease.
How much Time you Give is up to You...
Whether you want to volunteer on a regular basis or just occasionally, there are a number of volunteer opportunities available to you. Any time you can give will be greatly appreciated and you'll feel great by helping to improve the lives of all individuals affected by kidney disease.
Volunteers Speak Out...
- "Volunteering is a way of giving back to an organization who has given so much to me"
- "When you focus on the needs of others, your problems become smaller"
- "I'm grateful to society for being alive and its time for payback"
- "As a mother of a child with kidney disease, the situation is out of my hands and I've left things up to God. This is what I can do to help and learn"
- "I get a thrill out of helping others get over their obstacles"

Programs
The National Kidney Foundation of Kentucky offer several different programs throughout the year targeted toward the prevention, treatment and ultimate cure of kidney and urinary tract diseases. Some of these are ongoing programs while others are annual events. We are tremendously grateful for the work of all our volunteers and depend on their assistance for our programs to be a success.
- Kidney Walk
The Kidney Walk is a annual non-competitive fund raising walk that focuses on education about the prevention of kidney disease and organ donation. Energetic volunteers are needed to serve on several pre-walk steering committees and throughout the day of the walk. Committee members coordinate the event, solicit corporate sponsors, recruit walkers and coordinate and manage the Dialysis Center Challenges. Walk day volunteers would help man the check-in and registration area, course monitors, first aid stations, water stations, t-shirt distribution, pre & post data entry help, and wellness tent volunteers. - NKF Golf Tournament
Committee members coordinate the event, solicit corporate sponsors and recruit golfers. Volunteers also serve on the committee planning the event. Volunteers assist on the day of the event to register the golfers, serve as scorekeepers, and observe play, to help ensure that the tournament runs smoothly. - K.E.E.P.
The Kidney Early Evaluation Program is an early detection and intervention program for people at increased risk of kidney disease. - Kidney Cars
This is one of the NKFG's largest fundraisers. Individuals may donate unwanted vehicles to the NKFG. NKFG will tow these cars away for free, and the individual may qualify for a tax deduction. The result? NKFG raises needed funds for its many programs. One important and easy way for you to help the National Kidney Foundation is to tell friends and coworkersabout this great program. - Team Kentucky
This group of transplant recipients works throughout the year to maintain wellness and promote organ donation and transplantation. Every two years this group competes in the Olympic-style Transplant Games. Team Kentucky is open to all organ transplant recipients of all ages.
