Education
The NKFK provides continuing education programs to physicians, researchers, nurses, social workers, and nutritionists through our Patient & Family Services Committee.
Emergency Financial Assistance Program
The Emergency Financial Assistance is available to kidney patients for medication, transportation, housing, and utlilities. Applications are completed by the dialysis or transplant social worker.
Bed-wetting Program
Early detection can help prevent the progression of kidney disease to kidney failure.
Bed-wetting is a common program in children. In most cases, the child will outgrow this problem. A free brochure describes the treatments that are available if bed-wetting is a problem with your child. You should discuss these treatments with your pediatrician or family doctor. Research
The National Kidney Foundation of Kentucky Endowment Fund supports research on the causes, cures, and prevention of kidney disease. Allocations have been made to the University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, and other national research centers. Twenty-five cents of every contribution dollar is given to national research.
Renal Dialysis Centers
The NKFK is proud to provide assistance to the 48 strong renal dialysis network in Kentucky. This network provides life-saving treatment to individuals with kidney disease. For information on the dialysis center nearest you, call us at 1(800)737-5433, or (502)585-5433.
Kroger Prescription Discount Card
The NKFK joined the Kroger Corporation in developing a Prescription Drug Discount Program which provides a 13% discount on on prescription drugs and over the counter smoking cessation products. Annual Weekend Retreat for Kidney Patients
The NKFK, on an annual basis, gives financial assistance through scholarships to kidney patients across the Commonwealth of Kentucky so they can attend the Annual Weekend Retreat for Kidney Patients in southeastern Kentucky. The camp is sponsored by the non-profit Kentucky Renal Patients Association.
Kidneys in the Classroom
A health curriculum developed by the National Kidney Foundation to be used with students in grades three through five, although can be adapted for any grade. This program gives students a better understanding of healthy kidney function and what happens when kidneys fail. The classes learn about the causes of kidney disease, treatments, and organ donation.
